Android vs Blackberry: Their Unique Features

The ongoing battle for popularity between mobile operating  system giants like Google Android OS and Research in Motion's (RIM) Blackberry OS has placed would-be smartphone owners in tight corners, as they now take more time thinking about which one they will go for.
But the truth is that, though these two mobile operating systems are pulling weight in the market, each of them attract different group people because of what they have to offer. While Google OS attracts  more of developers  because of its flexibility BlackBerry OS attracts more of Enterprise owners because of its notorious messaging services. Let's take each separately and see what they have to offer.
Android :
 Introduced by Google in 2007, Android has grown tremendously in just a short time.
Pros;
1. Open source:  This means that anyone can contribute to the development of their software. This attracts developers and programmers of all works of life.
2. Applications: Android have app for virtually every situation. Android primarily focuses on enhancing user experience with the use of applications. Android market has hundreds of thousands of applications and users have a variety of options to make.
3. Hardware: Unlike blackberry OS that runs only on blackberry, most all the phone manufacturer like HTC, Samsung, Sony, Ericsson and Motorola uses android OS. With this one can easily share applications and software.
4. Software: Android's software is user friendly, one has the option to alter the original software, add custom software, you can even make your phone to behave like tablet and pc with multiple customizable features.
Cons;
1.Poor battery life.
2.Because of the open nature of the OS, too many crapware (useless apps) exist since Google don't screen applications before the go to the market.

Blackberry:
First came on the market in1999. The first OS version for smartphones, version 3.6 released in march 2002.
Pros;
1. Push Email Technology: This is what blackberry knows how to do best. Proud owners of blackberry devices are always up to date. with blackberry's push mail service, you can easily send and receive messages in just a matter of seconds. These favors Enterprise owners as as distance is no more a barrier between them and their customers.
2. Social Networking: This is another thing blackberry is known for. This is attributed to their push mail service. This makes it easier for blackberry device owners to connect with one another with faster delivery of messages. This also favors business as it also serve as a means of advertising.
3. Battery Life: amongst other competitors, Blackberry seemingly has the best battery management providing users optimal power consumption in just a single full charge.
Cons;
1. Though RIM have managed to introduce their own Blackberry App World, their apps except social applications are less attractive compared to that of the almighty Android Market
2. Business-oriented: Though Blackberry have achieved success by bridging the gap in corporate world, they failed to realize how important and average user can be. Its more like a corporate tool than a mobile device.To even enjoy most of their goodies you need expensive subscriptions.

As I said earlier, the choice of which one to buy/use is dependent on what you want. I want to hear your own opinion, comment on this post and say which one you prefer and maybe   your reason for it.Your contribution will be of immense help.
